Job Summary

Queensferry Sea & Royal Marines Cadets (T.S. Lochinvar) is a youth charity based at Port Edgar, South Queensferry.

We're seeking a community-minded Volunteer Treasurer (Trustee) to help oversee our unit's finances and support our mission to give young people the best possible head start in life through nautical adventure, teamwork, and personal growth.

This is a trustee position within our Unit Management Team (UMT). You'll provide financial oversight, help plan budgets, and ensure the charity's funds are managed responsibly. It's a rewarding opportunity to use your skills for a positive local cause.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the preparation and maintenance of the unit's financial records. Ensure income and expenditure are accurately recorded and reconciled with bank statements. Present clear and accurate financial reports at monthly UMT meetings and at the Annual General Meeting. Monitor budgets, cash flow, and fundraising income to support effective decision-making. Ensure compliance with Sea Cadet and Charity Commission financial procedures. Liaise with the Unit Chair and Commanding Officer to maintain good financial governance. Support annual independent examination and submission of accounts.

Skills & Qualities

Good understanding of basic financial management and record-keeping. Comfortable using spreadsheets or accounting software (e.g. Excel, Xero, or similar). Organised, reliable, and able to explain finances clearly to non-specialists. Integrity and commitment to good governance. Experience in finance, business, or charity administration is helpful but not essential -- training and support are provided.

Time Commitment

Approximately 2-4 hours per month (mostly flexible). Attendance at monthly Unit Management Team meetings (usually one evening per month) plus occasional fundraising or community events.

Additional Information
