Technical Skills Confident climber with strong pruning and dismantling skills Competent in chainsaw use, aerial rescue, and rigging Good knowledge of safety standards and site compliance Able to maintain and manage tools and equipment
Leadership Skills Clear, professional communication with crews and clients Ability to organise tasks and coordinate a team on site Keen to mentor and support junior arborists Positive role model who can handle challenges calmly

That's why we've developed our Team Leader Development Pathway, designed to take ambitious arborists and support them step by step into technical leadership roles.
The Beechwood Development Pathway Our pathway is a 5-stage programme that combines technical training, leadership development, and personal growth.
Each stage includes structured reviews, clear salary progression, and recognition milestones.
Stage 1 - Climber (Core Technician) 0-6 months | 28-30,000 Build core climbing skills, tool care, and site safety awareness.
Stage 2 - Lead Climber 6-12 months | 30-32,000 Take on tool/equipment responsibility and mentor junior climbers.
Stage 3 - Trainee Team Leader 12-18 months | 32-35,000 Shadow planning, lead safety briefings, and begin leadership training.
Stage 4 - Team Leader 18-24 months+ | 35-38,000 Full crew and site responsibility, client contact, and operational leadership.
Stage 5 - Senior Arborist (Master Technician) 30+ months | 38-43,000 Mentor teams, lead complex jobs, support operations with audits and training.
