Primary Eyecare Services is the largest not-for-profit leading provider of NHS primary and community eye care services in England. Established over a decade ago in the North West, we now operate nationally, delivering enhanced eye care through a network of over 3,000 optometry practices. We work with NHS commissioners and Trusts to provide accessible, high-quality eye care services in local communities, supported by teams with expertise in NHS contracting, patient support, referral triaging, and telemedicine.
Role Overview:
Primary Eyecare Services is looking for enthusiastic and clinically focused optometrists to join the Professional Service Directorate. The role offers an exciting opportunity to engage in referral triage and provide clinical support to the central administrative hub. Successful applicants will play a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive timely, high-quality care by triaging referrals.
Shift Pattern:
This is a part-time position, working 7 hours per week across two days (Monday and Tuesday). The schedule includes a 2-hour evening shift on Monday, which can be worked flexibly between 5pm and 9pm. On Tuesday, the remaining 5 hours are to be completed during the day between 10am and 4pm, split into two separate 2.5-hour sessions with a mandatory break in between due to the nature of the triage work.
Salary:
The FTE salary for this role is 55,380 per annum and will be calculated pro rata accordingly.
Location:
This is a remote role, offering the flexibility to work from home anywhere within the UK. Unfortunately, applications from outside the UK cannot be considered.
General Responsibilities:
Referral Triage: As a triage optometrist, your primary responsibility will be to review referrals from optometrists, general practitioners (GPs), and other primary care providers. You will determine the most appropriate pathway for each patient, ensuring they are directed to the right service.
Clinical Support: Offer clinical support and guidance to the hub's administrative team as needed, helping to address any clinical queries or concerns.
Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve collective objectives, ensuring a smooth workflow and high-quality patient care.

Ability to follow local guidelines in the management of patients

Confident in clinical decision making
Demonstrate ability to work effectively as a team member assisting colleagues to deliver objectives
Ability to express written information in a clear, concise and understandable manner
Ability to manage priorities and work in a time-efficient manner

Desirable
Evidence of CPD in accordance with GOC regulations
Recent experience of GOS sight testing in England
Demonstrable experience of referral triage
Demonstrable experience of working with different healthcare professionals
