Route74 is owned by Patersons of Greenoakhill and is part of the Patersons group.
Route 74 operates two truck stops - one at Lesmahagow and one at London Road, Glasgow. We offer secure parking for up to 150 trucks, including a dedicated area for refrigerated and transporter vehicles at our Lesmahagow location. Facilities include showers, petrol station, toilets, TV screens, and truck washes. We also have a restaurant on both sites serving truckers and the general public.
The Role:
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic General Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our busy truckstops, including a full-service restaurant, fuel services, retail, and facilities. The ideal candidate will ensure exceptional customer service, operational efficiency, team performance, and compliance with all legal and health & safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
Oversee daily operations of the truckstop, including forecourt, parking, showers, restaurant, and retail areas.
Monitor and improve operational efficiency and profitability across all departments.
Implement company standards and procedures to ensure excellent service delivery.
Team Leadership
Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate a multi-functional team, including restaurant staff, cleaners, forecourt assistants, and security.
Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, and staff development plans.
Manage staff rotas and ensure adequate staffing levels at all times.
Customer Service
Ensure all guests, including professional drivers and members of the public, receive a warm welcome and high-quality service.
Handle customer feedback, complaints, and incidents professionally and in line with company policy.
Compliance & Health and Safety
Ensure all activities meet health & safety, food hygiene, fire safety, and environmental standards.
Conduct risk assessments and regular safety audits.
Ensure compliance with employment law and licensing regulations.
Financial & Commercial
Manage budgets, cash handling, stock control, and supplier relationships.
Analyse and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including footfall, sales, and margins.
Drive sales through local marketing, promotions, and customer engagement.
Facilities & Maintenance
Ensure the site, facilities, and equipment are well maintained and clean.
Liaise with contractors for repairs and maintenance as needed.
Required Skills
Essential:
Proven experience as a General Manager, Operations Manager, or similar role in hospitality, retail, or service environments.
Strong leadership, people management, and customer service skills.
Knowledge of health & safety, food hygiene, and employment law.
Good commercial acumen and experience managing budgets and KPIs.
Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
Experience in a motorway services, truckstop, or fuel/forecourt operation.
Familiarity with rota management software and POS systems.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
