Job Summary



We are looking for a talented and ambitious individual to generate income for Candlelighters through the development and implementation of a Trust Fundraising Strategy. This will involve the planning and writing of funding bids, reporting on previous grants and the research of new funding opportunities.

Historically, Candlelighters raises approximately 200k per year through Trust & Foundations, which we aim to grow in the coming year. In addition to this 200k, we have in the private phase of our appeal to raise 1m to fund the Candlelighters Supportive Care Research Centre, with Trust & Foundations being the main source of income during this phase.

This is an exciting time for Trust Fundraising at Candlelighters and this role provides a great opportunity for an experienced Trust Fundraiser to develop and achieve success.

Key relationships



You will work closely with wider members of the fundraising team on collaborative

fundraising efforts in order to deliver the Fundraising Strategy and meet annual targets and budgets.

You will also be Volunteer Supervisor to one Trust & Foundations Volunteer who

currently volunteers once a week.

You will work closely with our Family Support Team, maintaining positive relationships and keeping up to speed on any developments in service delivery.

Principle Responsibilities



Fundraising Strategy



Lead on the development and implementation of Trust Fundraising Strategy and budget in line with the fundraising department's business plan, ensuring ROI targets are met. Work closely with wider fundraising team to deliver fundraising strategy and achieve overall fundraising target of 1.9 million and succeed in achieving the charities long term growth strategy. Support the Trust Fundraising element of the Candlelighters Supportive Care Research Centre appeal

Business Development



Prepare compelling Trust applications, using strong cases for support, for existing and new Trusts. Perform extensive research to identify new Trust & Foundations funding opportunities in line with the Trust & Foundations Fundraising Strategy. Demonstrate creative ways to maximise Candlelighters appeal to Trusts through specific project funding. Liaise with Family Support to ensure funding opportunities are identified and actioned appropriately, keeping them up to date on the results of applications.

Supporter Care



To provide professional and personal service to our Trust funders via email, telephone, post and digital communications where appropriate. Understand the importance of the Trust & Foundations income stream and the various steps within a Trust & Foundations funding cycle. Follow up and ensure that pledged amounts are received by Candlelighters. To maintain relationships with Trusts through regular communications, reports, accounts and updates. Ensure that reports and applications are submitted within the Trust deadlines. To acknowledge donations efficiently and appropriately.

Administration



To record all relevant information on the fundraising database as required and maintain up to date records. To monitor the income and expenditure of restricted funding. Ensure all written materials comply with the Candlelighters key messaging and brand guidelines. To participate in Performance Development Plans and training identified to further enhance your role. To demonstrate the Candlelighters values on a daily basis. To ensure the families and their children remain at the heart of all our work To act as an ambassador to Candlelighters Any other duties reasonably assigned by the Head of Fundraising or Chief Executive

Person Specification



Qualifications and Education


Essential



5 GCSEs, including Maths and English or equivalent.

Desirable



Full driving licence/have transport available. Training in Safeguarding Children Evidence of IOF qualification

Knowledge & Experience



Essential



Experience of writing clear, compelling written submissions that persuade or influence an external audience (e.g. funding applications, bids, proposals, tenders, grant applications, business cases, journalistic features or reports). Demonstrable ability to translate complex information into engaging, accessible narratives, tailored to different audiences and priorities. Ability to research and understand funder, commissioner or stakeholder priorities, and align proposals or written content accordingly. Experience of working to deadlines and managing multiple submissions or projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Desirable



Experience of Trusts & Foundations fundraising, grant-making, philanthropy or charitable funding environments. Experience of securing funding or investment through grants, tenders, commissions or competitive funding processes. Knowledge of the UK charitable sector, particularly children's health charities. Experience of building or maintaining external relationships with funders. Familiarity with monitoring/evaluation, including writing impact reports & funder updates. Experience of using CRM systems to track applications, deadlines and outcomes. Understanding of restricted funding, compliance and governance requirements.

Skills



Excellent sales skills with ability to articulate information in a persuasive manner. Ability to develop compelling proposals, with the ability to demonstrate clear outcomes and impact. Ability to interact effectively with people at a senior level internally and externally. Strong organisational, planning and prioritisation skills, including ability to work independently. To be pro- active and solution focussed. Ability to analyse data and report on insights. Confident IT skills and use of Microsoft Office. Ability to manage emotions with families affected by childhood cancer. Ability to manage working from home including self-motivation, effective planning and care over personal wellbeing.
This role is subject to an enhanced criminal record check, which is processed through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Due to the sensitive nature of this role and our duty of care as a charity, it is not suitable for individuals who are current or former beneficiaries of Candlelighters, including family members of children we have supported.
