We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Tutor (Research) to join the MA Architecture programme on a fixed-term maternity cover basis. Working closely with the Head of Programme, Beth Hughes, the postholder will play a key role in the conceptualisation, coordination and delivery of teaching and research that supports the RIBA and ARB Part 2 validation of the programme.
The MA Architecture is a professionally accredited degree, and the successful candidate will bring current knowledge of architectural practice and education, contributing to innovative teaching, curriculum development and research that reflects the ambitions of the School.
Learning & Teaching
You will provide high-quality academic, pastoral and technical tutorial support to postgraduate students, including regular one-to-one tutorials and formative feedback. You will contribute to studio teaching and complementary studies, participate in assessment and assessment boards, and, where required, lead a designated project. The role includes contributing to curriculum design, cross-disciplinary teaching, supervision of research students, and active engagement with developments in architectural education.
Research
You will maintain an active research profile aligned with the strategic direction of the School and College, disseminating research through appropriate channels and contributing to the overall research standing of the School. The postholder is expected to pursue research objectives, produce outputs of at least 3* REF quality, and contribute to research funding activity where appropriate.
Academic Management & Citizenship
The role involves participation in student recruitment and promotional activities, leading field trips, undertaking risk assessments, and contributing to College committees and academic citizenship.
Knowledge Transfer
You will support knowledge exchange through industry engagement, funding proposals and collaboration aligned with your area of specialism.
Essential Requirements

  • First degree in a relevant discipline
  • Experience teaching architectural design studios and complementary studies
  • Evidence of supervising academic work at master's and doctoral level
  • Commitment to high-quality teaching, CPD, and equality, diversity and inclusion
Desirable
  • Doctorate or equivalent professional/academic achievement
  • Part III ARB/RIBA qualification or registration
  • PGCert in Higher Education or HEA Fellowship (or willingness to undertake)
  • Evidence of, or clear potential for, REF-quality research outputs
