Role: Tutor in Interior, Architectural and Spatial Design at Edinburgh College of Art

Grade UE06: Salary Range \xc2\xa331,396 to \xc2\xa336,024 Pro-rata*

120 hours will be offered between 1st September and 31st December 2023

This role is open-ended

Applications are invited for a Guaranteed Hours (GH) contract as a tutor in Interior, Architectural and Spatial Design.

The Opportunity:

Interior, Architectural and Spatial Design are looking for an individual experienced in practical and theoretical teaching to fill tutor positions on a post graduate course that looks at creative ways of analysing and documenting the interiors of an existing modernist building in Edinburgh, using drawing, digital media, and site writing.

Applicants should have some knowledge of design/interior/architectural history and theory, including place writing, as well as practical experience of spatial drawing and/or digital media.

Learning and teaching activities are within a post graduate programme, therefore you will be required to deliver teaching, along with associated preparation and marking at that level. Experience of these within a university setting is required, and an understanding of the theory of interior, architectural and spatial design to post graduate level would be desirable. Practitioners with relevant experience will also be considered, alongside PhD students or those with tutoring experience in interior, architectural and spatial design and related disciplines.

You will be involved in teaching on Tuesday afternoons during the 11 weeks of semester 1 teaching, along with formative and summative marking at set points in the semester. You will work with a group of up to 15 students, and be responsible for teaching preparation supervised by the course organiser. You will also have responsibility for marking students work to deadlines and undertaking meetings with other course tutors, course organiser and programme director as required. Start will be immediate, and you will be required to familiarise yourself with the course material and online systems associated with the course.

Your skills and attributes for success:
  • Familiarity with Interior/Architecture/Design history and theory, including site writing.
  • Familiarity with spatial drawing and modelling/digital media
  • Teaching experience at university level in the subject, or related discipline.
  • Experience of marking and evaluation of students work.
  • Ability to use online digital platforms such as teams, collaborate and Miro or similar.
