The Nuclear Services & Technology (NST) Business Unit consists of highly trained and motivated professionals providing expertise in the design and engineering of process equipment and nuclear facilities for defense programs, research and development of radioactive materials, non-reactor nuclear facility structures, systems, and components, nuclear reactor specialty systems, and nuclear material production facilities. Recognizing that there is a revitalization of nuclear infrastructure (R&D, Medical, Power, etc.) in the UK and European Union (EU), NST is expanding our capabilities to provide necessary and urgent engineering services in the region. We are looking to build a collaborative business that supports and compliments the existing supply chain and ensures that it can meet the significant demand going forward.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Merrick UK is seeking a highly motivated, and forward-thinking individual to become our UK NST Operations Manager. The Operations Manager will be responsible for supporting the UK NST Director to establish the UK business. Critical to this will be acquiring required certifications, establishing personnel, physical, and cyber security arrangements, establishing the physical UK office(s), recruiting staff, supporting business development activities, and negotiating and executing contracts.


We are looking for someone who is highly motivated and has experience working in the UK defence sector and preferably also in the nuclear sector, ideally in a project management or business development role. Of critical importance will be the ability and determination to understand complex issues, identify solutions and drive robust solutions, working with internal and external stakeholders, consultants and contractors. Initially the role will require working across all the aforementioned areas, however as the business grows, we anticipate the individual moving into a more focused role, either in Project Management, Commercial Management, or Business Development. It is anticipated that the NST Operations Manager will initially be a full-time telecommuter (initial 6 to 12 months) working from their home office until a corporate office is established in proximity to key client projects. The Operations Manager will be compensated per corporate policy for travel to / from client meetings, engagements, conferences, and other events in the UK, EU, and USA.

Key Duties and Responsibilities





Work with the UK NST Director to establish the UK business. Initial duties and responsibilities in support of the UK NST director will encompass:

Working with external consultants and internal stakeholders to achieve required UK certifications Working with external consultants and internal stakeholders to develop contracting arrangements with clients Working with external consultants and internal stakeholders to develop personnel, physical and cyber security arrangements Working with external consultants and internal stakeholders to identify, lease and fit-out suitable premises (potentially across multiple locations) Supporting bid / proposal writing and co-ordination Supporting Business Development activities through day-to-day liaison with potential clients, and attendance of conferences, exhibitions and client meetings Effectively managing delivery of contracted work packages, through engagement with clients, establishment of requirements, and co-ordination of delivery with engineering teams

The NST Operations Manager role will have significant interaction with clients, internal and external stakeholders and partner organisations, and as such strong interpersonal, presentation and influencing skills will be required, as well as confidence to communicate at all levels internally and externally.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Engineering, Business Management or similar Proficiency with MS Office, MS Teams, and MS Project with ability to analyse and produce performance metrics. Experience of delivering projects in an engineering or consulting environment Experience of supporting business development activities, either as an account leader, bid author or similar An in-depth understanding of UK personnel, physical and cyber security requirements in a defence environment Basic knowledge of UK standard form contracts (ie: NEC4) and contracting mechanisms (fixed price, target cost, reimbursable, frameworks) Proven technical writing experience and capability to assist in writing, reviewing, coordinating, and revising technical studies and business development proposal documents Client projects require British citizenship. The ability to travel regularly to client sites and partner organisation meetings throughout the UK. Applicants must be eligible to hold trusted positions and pass client background checks. Clear Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK without the requirement for visa sponsorship or funded relocation.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance if required by clients. Formal professional qualification in a relevant Project/Programme Discipline, such as PMBOK/PMP or Prince2 Practitioner.
