We are looking for a hands-on and highly organised

Operations Manager

to oversee the day-to-day transport operations at our Washway Lane site. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring smooth running of the traffic planning office, maintaining compliance standards, and driving operational efficiency across the business.

You'll work closely with drivers, office staff, and customers to ensure all transport activities run safely, legally, and on time -- while continuously seeking ways to optimise performance and reduce costs.

Responsibilities

Manage the daily transport operations and traffic planning function. Maintain smooth and efficient communication with customers and internal teams. Oversee driver performance, including tachograph control, discipline, and compliance. Monitor, support, and develop office staff and drivers. Recruit, interview & induct new drivers. Oversee all driver and site staff training. Conduct regular safety and compliance audits. Ensure all tractors, trailers and site assets are serviced in line with schedules. Complete accident reports and conduct driver investigations where necessary. Maintain and develop IT systems in line with Head Office specifications. Analyse and review driver behaviour to drive cost efficiencies. Oversee daily operations, ensuring that all processes run smoothly and efficiently. Manage logistics and supply chain activities to optimise performance and reduce costs. Utilise Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) to create reports, manage data, and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Maintain strong relationships with customers, addressing their needs and ensuring satisfaction. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess operational success and identify areas for improvement. Coordinate with various departments to ensure alignment of goals and objectives.

Qualifications & Experience

Proven experience in management within an operational setting. Strong knowledge of logistics and supply chain management principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal. Demonstrated leadership abilities with a focus on team development and motivation. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. High level of computer literacy with the ability to adapt to new technologies quickly. A valid driving licence is preferred for potential travel between sites.

The Role

The main hours for the role are Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm however a degree of flexibility is required in line with the needs of the business, this could include outside of these hours and possible overnight stays away from the depot.
