BBVA C&IB (Corporate & Investment Banking)
i s the BBVA division serving corporate clients and financial institutions. It addresses all their needs related to short- and long-term financing, project and infrastructure financing, international trade, payments, working capital, cash management, M&A, financial advisory, as well as Global Markets: FX, rates, equities, derivatives, trading, indices, securitizations, and more. Currently, BBVA C&IB has a physical presence in 23 countries and is undergoing a process of business and footprint expansion.
The
Non-Financial Risks (NFR) team at BBVA C&IB
ensures that the non-financial risk levels of C&IB are managed effectively and aligned with the Group's strategy, policies and procedures in this area, supporting business development, growth, and profitability within C&IB.
About the Role/Position
NFR local (UK) function has just been launched and the selected person will be responsible for heading and building the function with the support of the Global NFR CIB team. He/She will report jointly to the local Head of Regulation & Internal Control (R&IC) or Compliance, and the Global Head of NFR CIB.
It will have a global scope over the business perimeter and entities of C&IB within the geography. The role will coordinate with the 1st and 3rd Lines of Defense locally, the global NFR CIB team, and the heads of businesses and processes within the C&IB geography to:
Governance Implementation and Adaptation:
Implement BBVA's global Non-Financial Risk (NFR) governance framework, ensuring alignment with group standards while adapting to local regulatory, operational, and market conditions.
Risk Assessment Leadership:
Coordinate, participate or challenge Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), and lead local top-down risk assessments incorporating emerging risks, supervisor concerns, and business growth plans, and align results with local and global priorities.
Control Agenda Development:
Build and coordinate the local control agenda to address prioritized risk assessment results in collaboration with senior management and business/support units.
Risk Mapping and Monitoring:
Maintain consistency between local risk maps, operational events, and emerging risks, ensuring proactive risk culture and integration with business strategies.
Independent Reviews and Compliance:
Conduct specialized reviews (e.g., IT, continuity, finance, critical processes) to meet global and local regulatory requirements, escalating findings as necessary.
Risk Appetite and Control Frameworks:
Define, monitor, and escalate non-financial risk appetite using tools like Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), stress tests, and operational loss analyses, tailoring frameworks to local conditions.
Support for New Business and Growth:
Oversee, participate or govern non-financial risk admission processes for new business initiatives, ensuring alignment with BBVA's frameworks and facilitating streamlined workflows and tiered evaluations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Support and challenge Risk Control Assurers (RCAs) in the first line of defense (1LoD), ensuring alignment with governance expectations, and collaborate with internal audit (3LoD) to enhance the control environment.
Transparent Reporting and Coordination:
Ensure timely and accurate reporting of non-financial risks to local and global governance bodies, supporting decision-making and aligning with BBVA's and C&IB corporate processes and committees.
Enable Local Autonomy and Delegation:
Strengthen local autonomy by governing and supporting delegation schemes, embedding a robust Three Line of Defense (3LoD) model, and reducing reliance on corporate oversight for risk management.
Requirements for this position include:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Law, Engineering, Sciences, or a related field.
A master's degree or certifications related to financial markets, financial management, banking, financial products, risks, compliance, and/or control will be considered an asset.
Professional Experience and Knowledge:
Experience in internal control, non-financial risks, audit, compliance, and/or units within Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, or Capital Markets.
Familiarity with the Internal Control Model and Non-Financial Risk Management at BBVA, or other International Banks.
Knowledge of the industry, products, activities, operations, and/or regulations related to corporate banking, investment banking, and capital markets.
