An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced administrator to join the Medical Education team based at St Nicholas Hospital. This key role will have responsibility for the provision of high-level and efficient administrative support for undergraduate medical students.
The successful applicant will have excellent customer service experience, excellent organisational and communication skills, experience of taking responsibility for managing own workload and meeting deadlines, ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, think critically and have excellent planning skills. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new IT skills as required.
The applicant will also possess the ability to work as a part of a team, as well as independently and be able to establish good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. An understanding of Medical Education would be beneficial but is not essential.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will oversee and coordinate the induction and training of undergraduate medical students based in Northumberland, Newcastle, and Gateshead during their mental health rotations, including:

  • Working closely with the Senior Medical Education Team, Undergraduate Leads, Teaching Fellows, University staff and Consultant teachers to plan and deliver formal rotations for medical students in their clinical years.
  • Providing high level administrative support and coordination for the delivery of the undergraduate teaching and assessments at St Nicholas Hospital.
  • Planning and organising complex timetables, ensuring these are accurately uploaded onto the appropriate University platform/s in a timely manner.
  • Liaising with clinical teams to ensure clinical attachments are planned and agreed effectively and communicated to students and teachers in accordance with tight deadlines.
  • Collating undergraduate feedback and working with Undergraduate Leads to look for trends to inform developments in the design and delivery of teaching.
  • Regularly attending the Psychiatry Implementation & Innovation Group (PIIG) and relevant undergraduate meetings, as well as annual University ADQM.
  • Responsibility for day-to-day supervision of the Medical Education Admin Officer, providing training & allocation of work, following all workforce policies as necessary.
  • Management and organisation of work experience, elective, and Physician Assistant programmes.

This post works within the Medical Education Team. The team covers the whole of CNTW with bases, in Newcastle, Sunderland and North Cumbria. We work closely with local Universities, Acute Hospitals, NHSE and other NHS organisations to oversee high quality education and training of undergraduate medical students and postgraduate resident doctors.
We plan & deliver clinical rotations and placements, a wide range & level of psychiatric teaching including simulated sessions, mock exams, in depth inductions, conferences, work experience and IT training. We successfully run three Medical Education Centres across the Northeast and Cumbria and are a lead trainer in Psychiatric Simulation.
