We are looking for proactive, curious, and motivated undergraduate civil and structural engineers to join us for your one-year placement starting in summer 2026.

An exceptional placement opportunity

Bryden Wood is a leading international company of creative engineers, architects, designers, and analysts. We're shaping the future of construction by bringing integrated expertise, innovation, deep experience, open minds and creativity to unravel the most complex problems and create exceptional, sustainable design solutions - all for a better built environment.

We are leaders in the theory and practice of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), the Platform approach to Design for Manufacture and Assembly (P-DfMA), generative design, creative technologies, integrated design and automation in construction.

As a placement engineer, you'll have the opportunity to work in a cutting-edge and dynamic design environment, collaborating with - and learning from - the multiple disciplines across the company. Our projects range from railways to hospitals to large scale residential developments to carbon-neutral office buildings.

We're committed to helping our placement engineers thrive, offering guidance, mentorship, and hands-on experience throughout your time with us.

About the role:

You will work in our London office in the Civil and Structural engineering departments on a variety of projects across a range of industries. Your placement will be split between civil and structural engineering, giving you broad exposure to both disciplines and helping you shape your future career path.

You'll be given real responsibility from day one, contributing to designs through drawing work, analysis and report writing. You will also have the opportunity to visit live sites and participate in meetings with design teams and clients.

We are an integrated company so you'll work closely with other disciplines as part of a team that's driving efficiency and innovation throughout the construction industry.

About you:

Well organised, careful, and solutions-based approach to solving design problems. Real enthusiasm for engineering design and keen to work in a challenging design environment on both the civil and structural elements of projects. Strong analytical reasoning, critical thinking, and creativity in developing efficient engineering solutions. Great interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team. Willingness to learn modelling software, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit. Interest in emerging technologies and innovations in the construction industry. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Fluent in spoken and written English.

Experience and education:

Enrolled on a professionally accredited civil or structural engineering degree course from a recognised UK university. Some experience working within a design office or the construction industry is preferred but not essential.
