The War, Terrorism and Political Violence (WTPV) business group operates within the top quartile of WTPV insurers within Lloyd\xe2\x80\x99s, and in 2022 generated Gross Written Premium circa USD 71m.

The WTPV business group offers customers a full complement of political violence insurance products, servicing a range of business sectors including Fortune 500 clients, Real Estate, Power, Energy, Manufacturing, Construction and Telecoms.

Our primary objective is to be the lead carrier in the WTPV market. We want to be recognised for our unsurpassed client service and the innovative approach we take when addressing our clients\xe2\x80\x99 most complex risks.

As an Underwriter I, you will be responsible for delivering a profitable \xe2\x80\x98Underwriting\xe2\x80\x99 service to your clients. Your key tasks include: underwriting business within the agreed business plan and individual authority; supporting the business planning process; building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients and supporting the design and structure of risks.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Reviewing submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports while conducting appropriate research to determine degree of risk for each account.
  • Calculating appropriate risk premium by considering the risk costs inherent to the WTPV sector, reinsurance cessions as well as the Underwriting and general administration costs while ensuring profitability.
  • Proactively advising, assisting, servicing and following up with clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure satisfaction and fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
  • Effective relationship management to initiate opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensuring account retention.
  • Controlling timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
  • In coordination with other internal teams, determining appropriate reinsurance for risk placements both on excess of loss and quota share basis.
  • Reviewing loss control reports and managing policy endorsement requests to process any necessary changes to the policy.
  • Supporting the business planning and forecasting process; monitoring financial exposure within outlined limits and monitoring premium income to ensure it remains within set limits.
  • Maintaining awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
You will report to the Head of War, Terrorism and Political Violence.

Qualifications

\xc2\xb7 Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree (or equivalent).

\xc2\xb7 Experience of working within an Underwriting team, possessing functional knowledge and skills reflective of a fully competent practitioner.

\xc2\xb7 Industry Knowledge and Commercial/Business Acumen.

\xc2\xb7 Analytical, negotiation and sales/marketing skills.

\xc2\xb7 Excellent written and oral communication skills. Outstanding customer service focus is a must.

\xc2\xb7 Interpersonal Savvy - Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong insured and broker contacts.

\xc2\xb7 Ability to develop and understand business processes, strategy and planning.

\xc2\xb7 Collaborative team player who provides creative solutions and ideas for resolution.
