The Role
We are recruiting for an Underwriter to join our Excess Casualty team within Insurance. The success candidate will appropriately underwrite risks in accordance with the business plan and within delegated underwriting authority with the purpose of underwriting a profitable account for Aspen.
Key Accountabilities
Assess, price, and underwrite new and renewal business within the Excess Casualty book of business
Monitor and ensure adherence to line size and capacity guidelines
Maintain a balanced and profitable portfolio in accordance with underwriting authority, appetite and underwriting guidelines
Ensure all underwriting activity complies with internal guidelines, regulatory requirements, and sanctions protocols
Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting guidelines and appetite
Maintain accurate documentation and underwriting files in accordance with the underwriting guidelines
Develop and maintain strong relationships with Lloyd's and London market brokers, as well as monitoring team relationships and dynamics with each one
Represent Aspen at client meetings, the box at Lloyds and industry events
Monitor competitor activity and market trends to inform pricing and product development strategies
Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
Knowledge of the Excess Casualty segment and areas of profit or concern
Understanding of Reinsurance structures and purchasing
Key producers of Excess Casualty business
Deliver a business plan for profitability for the Excess Casualty segment
Performance in line with overall strategy
Ability to negotiate with brokers and other intermediaries
Represent Aspen to key clients and intermediaries
Underwrite to Reinsurance strategy
Understand key financial metrics
Comply with internal and external governance requirements
Experience of the Excess Casualty Segment
Experience of running a profitable portfolio through market cycles
Experience of key financial metrics and drivers and delivering to targets
Established client/broker relationships within the Excess Casualty segment
