Role: Underwriter/Senior Underwriter - Credit & Political Risk
Location: London
Position type: Full time, permanent (minimum 3 days a week in the London office)

The Credit & Political Risk team provides insurance solutions to commercial and investment banks, development financial institutions, export credit agencies, trading companies and corporates, to mitigate a variety of financial and political risks. The team is located across our London, Singapore and Dubai offices.
Reporting to the Lead Underwriter - Credit & Political Risk, you will be responsible for executing the underwriting strategy in collaboration with the underwriting team and credit analysts, as well as supporting portfolio management and optimisation and the development of other team members.
About The Job
What you'll spend your time doing:
While there is rarely a 'typical' day as an Underwriter/Senior Underwriter, here's a snapshot of some of the key parts of the job:Although the individual will have exposure to the full risk portfolio, the primary focus of the role is to support the underwriting of the team's structured credit and project finance portfolio, across our Lloyd's and company paper platforms. Use strong analytical capabilities to develop and underwrite new business in accordance with the underwriting strategy and in collaboration with our credit analysis, exposure management and the technical pricing teams. Active engagement with brokers and clients (particularly banks) on market developments, new trends and sectors, wordings, etc. Representing MS Amlin at conferences or forums such at ITFA and the Berne Union Provide, training, knowledge sharing and best practice to members of the team through direct or indirect management. Play a key role in peer reviews by fostering open discussion and encouraging team learning. Provide effective oversight and input into the underwriting performance Identify potential areas of risk appetite and capability expansion and engage with senior management and Reinsurers to secure support for these initiatives Liaise with our award-winning claims team on watchlist monitoring, claims settlement and recovery Work in partnership within other group entities to leverage opportunities

What you'll need:
For this particular role there are some important qualifications and experience we need you to have. These include:Relevant Credit & Political Risk experience working within an underwriting or broking team Strong grounding in structured credit and project finance underwriting Formal credit related qualification (e.g. CFA) desirable Strong communication skills, able to tailor approach to different audiences Proven negotiator, with demonstrated ability to develop profitable new business whilst maintaining strong underwriting standards
