Job Description

We have the opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant to join our Aviation department here at Tokio Marine Kiln. Reporting into the Departmental Manager , you will support the team in carrying out all tasks relating to the underwriting and reinsurance of the Division in order to provide appropriate customer focused products and maximise profitability, always bearing in mind the relationship between risk and return in respect of all underwriting activities.



The role includes responsibility for:



To assist in the underwriting in accordance with the Divisional Head's instructions in respect of premiums, terms and conditions which are set in order to secure the planned underwriting profits in accordance with the Division's agreed Business Plans.



To establish and develop business relationships with the Divisions intermediaries, agents and business partners in order to secure business portfolios for the Division that meet with the Business Plans and which are effectively handled to reduce the risk of mal-administration in the distribution process.



Partnership with underwriters and maintenance of a general understanding of the account in order to assist underwriters, Divisional manager and other stakeholders.



To assist in coaching and training provided to graduates working with the Division to ensure that they obtain a full understanding of the rating methodology, risk assessment and underwriting management processes used by the Division.



To participate actively in coaching/training provided for own learning and development.



To liaise in a timely manner with internal departments to ensure requests for information, feedback or guidance are dealt with effectively and efficiently.



To understand, absorb and adhere to all relevant sections of the Procedures Manual.



To support the underwriter in achieving the Lloyd's minimum underwriting standards by adhering to all relevant processes and procedures for recording risks.



To ensure all relevant information is obtained and recorded to assist in the pricing of risks by the underwriter.



To be a part of the review and challenge of individual underwriting decisions, and where necessary, ensure that appropriate action is taken to resolve any issues identified, including escalation.



Specific activities in respect of the underwriting, management and reinsurance of the Division business portfolio, as determined by the Divisional Head and Divisional Manager.



Data entry and retrieval including report set-up and analysis. Divisional administration. Maintaining the underwriting and electronic filing system. Other Ad hoc tasks as required.



Ideally, the successful candidate will have general office administration experience and will be comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of the insurance market, especially Lloyd's, is advantageous but not imperative. We are looking for a team player with good mathematical skills and attention to detail, who can also take ownership where required.
