The Role
This role will be an essential part of the Underwriting department, reporting to the Underwriting Portfolio Director. This is a group role operating in a publicly listed SEC reporting environment and will support the Underwriting Portfolio Director and wider Underwriting team in carefully managing and developing the group's net underwriting portfolio, through the production of high-quality underwriting analytics and portfolio diagnostics, providing insight and clarity to the group and entity CUOs, and wider leadership team. The role holder will be expected to contribute to FIG's cultural, strategic and technical development.

Key Accountabilities
Portfolio
Contribute to the monthly oversight process including production of exhibits and commentary for Committee and Board papers, producing supporting underwriting and performance analysis, and automating the process where possible.
Provide day-to-day support to Underwriting management by providing insightful analysis and clear evaluation of proposals for material in-year changes to the business plan, or any other items requiring sign-off under binder or provision of services agreements.
Understand the structure and risk profiles of products in the portfolio as well as the outwards reinsurance programme, producing tailored analysis and technical MI to support strategic decision making.
Support with gross to net analysis, liaising with actuarial and capital modelling to assess economic impact of changes to the portfolio and outwards programme.
Data
Own the Underwriting Data Model, running the monthly process to produce and validate the model, maintaining version control, as well as building, optimising and enhancing output. Ensure exhibits and analysis produced are high quality and meet business requirements.
Strategy and Business development
Work with the UW PF Director to review and evaluate the annual business plan, ensuring that underwriting plans proposed by our trading partners align with our risk appetite and business objectives, and are captured appropriately in the binder framework agreement(s).
Prepare commercial strategic and market analysis to facilitate and enable effective strategy discussion, reflection and oversight, including analysis of market conditions, exposure, loss performance and economic trends impacting our trading relationships.
Working closely with the Group CUO and wider CUO team, support the execution of the group's underwriting diversification strategy including opportunity analysis and due diligence.
Assist with ad hoc strategic and business projects as required, including reinsurance packs, rating agency
Governance
Support the Underwriting management team by providing data and reports to enable oversight and monitoring of adherence to underwriting principles and governance frameworks.
Team and culture
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with all relevant stakeholders across the company and its trading partners.
Work collaboratively across the company to embed the target culture and operating model, and to ensure cross functional understanding of our strategic objectives.
Support the Underwriting department and wider IG on an ad hoc basis as required.

Skills & Experience
Significant experience in the global specialty (re)insurance sector essential, knowledge of listed insurance groups an advantage, understanding of reinsurance and DUA business desirable.
Very strong data and systems skills, ability to interrogate datasets, manage large Excel and Power BI data models and reports, understanding of SQL database architecture an advantage.
Advanced Excel and Power BI (VBA, DAX an advantage)
Advanced PowerPoint and MI presentation skills.
At least 10 years' experience working within the industry in an underwriting or actuarial department
Multi-class experience desirable, in particular specialty insurance lines and property RI.
Strong stakeholder management and relationship building skills - ability to operate in an international environment essential
Curious and proactive, comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment requiring initiative
Quality focussed, attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve issues
CII qualifications desirable
