Lead Electronics Design Engineer – Motor Control, Northamptonshire £50,000 - £55,000 circa + Benefits
 
Unknown Recruitment is seeking a Lead Electronics Engineer – Motor Controls for our niche engineering client based in Northamptonshire.  They are specialists in niche vehicle design, build and supply programmes, ranging with projects within motorsports to fully autonomous vehicles. 
 
We are seeking an electronics engineer – motor control to lead the specification, design, manufacture and testing of electronic systems. There will be a focus on motor control, but the role will cover the electrical systems across all projects. The successful candidate would be working in a small team on short timescale projects. They must be able to work effectively with little technical supervision, reporting directly to the directors.
 
Lead Electronics Design Engineer – Motor Control responsibilities / skills:
 
Motor control theory including field-oriented control with position feedback for brushless motors.
Complete delivery of electronic hardware and software projects. These would ideally include hardware design of digital and power electronics, creating and debugging embedded software in C, defining communications with user interface software and modifying GUI in higher level languages.
Understand the process of control system algorithm development, design and documentation. This will include solving control problems using PID controllers and state machines.
Comfortable with the selection, configuration and utilisation of debuggers and lab equipment to develop and debug electronic systems. This would include the ability to specify, create and operate bench setups to solve problems.
Experience of performing and specifying structured control system testing, validation and verification. Specifying vehicle electrical/electronic systems integration, including the wiring and selection of analogue, digital and CAN based sensor and actuators.
Proven track record in working alone and taking the initiative as required
Previous experience in a similar role
 
Lead Electronics Design Engineer – Motor Control   Essential skills
 
The ability to oversee and supervise a motor controller programme is essential, organising and managing third party support where necessary. Highly detailed knowledge of all the individual areas (whilst desirable) is not necessarily essential, but the successful candidate should be able to conduct a broad range of the work solo and unsupported where necessary. A desire to create new and interesting products is critical, along with:
 
Excellent attention to detail
Good communication skills
Flexible ‘can do’ approach to tasks
An interest in developing hardware and software for other programmes as required
