Join our dynamic and forward-thinking team as a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist, where you'll play a pivotal role in delivering expert, compassionate care to patients with urological conditions. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse with a passion for oncology and a drive to lead service development and innovation.

What you'll do:

Provide specialist nursing care and support to patients across the uro-oncology pathways. Act as a key worker, offering holistic assessments, treatment planning, and emotional support. Lead on service improvement initiatives and contribute to multidisciplinary team working. Support education and training for staff and patients, promoting best practice in cancer care.

What we're looking for:

NMC-registered nurse with significant experience in uro - oncology or. Strong leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills. Passion for patient-centred care and service development. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a specialist team.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will function within a field of practice that focuses on the needs of the patient and encompasses interaction with others in delivering nursing, health and social care.



The CNS will promotes excellence in nursing practice through the integration of expert clinical practice, education, consultancy, acting as a resource and commitment to nursing research. The post holder will work closely with the Urology CNS team across the patient pathway.



The CNS will contribute to the on-going role in the development of the service for patients with urological cancers and benign urological conditions. This will include developing protocols; setting up; and running a nurse led clinics (face to face/Virtual/telephone) for follow up care which will include advanced assessment skills.



The CNS will be the key professional involved in supporting and counselling a caseload of patients and their families through the entire cancer journey and specifically around the time of the cancer diagnosis and surgery and following cancer specific treatments.



The CNS will also participate in the education of all disciplines of staff working with this patient group and act as an expert resource to other professionals involved in the care of these patients. They will work to ensure that cancer specific guidelines are adhered to and Department of Health standards are maintained.

Roles and Responsibilities



Expert Clinical Practice/Leadership



1. To provide expert nursing advice to patients with Urological malignancies and their families throughout the course of their illness from diagnosis, assessing their needs and providing information as required.



2. To demonstrate specialist skills and knowledge through expert nursing practice. This includes administering intravesical medications and, with specialist training, carrying out urological diagnostics such as Uro dynamic studies.



3. To liaise with all relevant members of the multidisciplinary team in the care and support of individual patients including GPs.



4. To maintain a high profile in the clinical area, acting as a role model for other health care professionals



5. To facilitate individualised patient care based upon the principles of evidence based practice.



6. To act as a liaison nurse between inpatient, outpatient and home care, referring on to community support agencies when required.



7. To hold a nurse led clinic including the development of written protocols based on national standards, triaging or following up Urology cancer and benign patients, arranging tests, reviewing results, diagnosing, and referring back to a medical team as appropriate.



8. Supporting patients with body image and sexuality concerns in relation urological diagnosis, utilising other agencies and specialists as appropriate.



9. To offer advice and support on pain and symptom control liaising with the Specialist palliative care team, and make appropriate referrals to the chronic pain service.



10. To assess individual patients' psychosocial and spiritual needs and refer for appropriate counselling or to other agencies.



11. To work in close collaboration with colleagues in the Surgical Directorate.



12. To work in close collaboration with the cancer and palliative care team.



13. To counsel the family of patients with Urological cancer, referring to the appropriate genetic service as required.



14. To provide professional clinical leadership and expertise to other nursing staff.



15. To help co-ordinate weekly multi-professional meetings for Urology cancer and suspected patients to achieve high standards of MDT working and assist with the compliance and evidence for cancer peer review.



16. To provide expert nursing advice to primary care teams on managing patients with Urological conditions and malignancies.



17. Responsible for working with the team to implement the recovery package for patients including completing of HNA's assisting with health and well-being events and treatment summaries where appropriate.



Education / leadership



1. To promote patient/carer independence through the provision of relevant teaching and support.



2. To participate in and organise study days/education programmes to raise awareness of the holistic needs of patients.



3. To develop resource and teaching packs for use by patients and/or staff in the clinical and educational setting.



4. To ensure the provision of appropriate written information is available to patients and staff.



5. To participate in the Trust's on-going educational programmes.



6. To evaluate the need for patient support groups within the Trust.



7. Liaise with other charities, organisations and agencies dedicated to urological cancer ensuring patients, their families and carers are informed of the availability of existing support services.



Research/Audit/ Quality



1. To utilise up-to-date research findings in the delivery of patient care and to disseminate this knowledge to all members of the multidisciplinary team.



2. To participate as appropriate in relevant research studies and audit findings and disseminate these findings to clinical practice as appropriate in order to develop best practice.



3. To identify opportunities for nursing research within own specialist area and carry out nursing research appropriate to the speciality.



4. To regularly audit service including eliciting the views of patients, carers and professionals ensuring patient feedback is incorporated into developments in the service.



5. To attend relevant departmental and Directorate and network meetings relating to clinical governance and to contribute to the clinical governance agenda.



Management



1. To liaise with other members of the team to ensure that there is an efficient use of resources, human, financial and time.



2. To ensure that there is a safe and acceptable environment for clients/patient.



3. To act as a patient/staff advocate through the application of ethical, legal and professional knowledge and skills.
