We are a

small

independent community shop(not-for-profit) (like a

charity shop

) seeking a reliable and skilled

Van OWNER/Driver

to join our team. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, self-employed van owner, with a reliable Ford Transit style van or larger, looking to earn a little extra in their spare time. This is not a regular full-time nor even part-time job, this is occasional, irregular, work, sometimes at short notice purely to meet the needs of our customers/suppliers.

They will be responsible for

occasionally transporting goods, safely and efficiently, ensuring timely deliveries while maintaining high standards of customer service. This role requires

excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of vehicle operation and maintenance.

Duties

Safely operate a van for the delivery of goods to various locations. Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in good working condition. Load and unload items, ensuring proper handling to prevent injury/damage. Communicate effectively with shop staff and customers regarding delivery schedules and any issues that may arise mainly by text messages. Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including times, locations, and any incidents. Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while driving. Provide assistance as required. Utilise mechanical knowledge to perform basic maintenance on the vehicle when necessary.

Experience

Previous experience as a Van Driver or in a similar role is preferred. Familiarity with commercial driving regulations and practices is essential. Experience as a Delivery Driver or in a Warehouse environment would be advantageous. Strong mechanical knowledge is a plus, enabling the driver to troubleshoot minor vehicle issues. Excellent communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with team members and customers alike.
