The Role
We are seeking an experienced VAT and customs specialist to join our firm, advising on art-related transactions. This role requires deep expertise in the complex regulatory landscape surrounding art imports, exports, consignments, sales, etc.
We would be open to considering candidates on a permanent or temporary basis, as well as a part-time arrangement if preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Extensive knowledge of VAT regulations and customs procedures for artworks and cultural objects
Proven experience with art imports/exports, temporary admissions for exhibitions, and commercial sales
Understanding of cultural property legislation and international art trade compliance
Background with art institutions, auction houses, galleries, museums, or similar organizations handling cultural artefacts
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in complex regulatory environments
Ideal Candidate
Practical experience from both the regulatory side (HMRC) and the commercial/institutional side (galleries, museums, auction houses, art logistics companies)
Knowledge of international shipping documentation, ATA Carnets, and cultural exemptions would be advantageous.
