The Role




We're seeking an experienced

VAT Manager

to take ownership of our VAT function and oversee the preparation and review of VAT Returns across our diverse client base. This position is suited to someone with a solid background in VAT Return preparation who can take the lead from day one - ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submissions.


Beyond hands-on preparation, this role will have a

managerial focus

, overseeing all VAT clients, managing the allocation of work across the team, and serving as the

main point of contact

for all VAT-related client queries.

Key Responsibilities



Prepare and review VAT Returns for clients across multiple industries, including construction, retail, and IT. Oversee VAT workflows to ensure deadlines are met each month/quarter. Allocate VAT work to team members and review their output for quality and compliance. Act as the main point of contact for VAT clients and handle related queries. Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and keep up to date with VAT legislation. Support the wider accounting team with VAT-related insights and training where needed. Work confidently with various accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent, etc.).

About You



Strong practical experience preparing VAT Returns in an accountancy practice environment. Experience across a range of industries including construction, retail, and IT. Organised, methodical, and able to manage multiple clients and deadlines. Excellent communication skills and client relationship management ability. Capable of working independently and managing a small team. 3+ years of VAT experience in practice.
