Responsible For:
Ensuring that the Elite EMS fleet is clean, tidy and stocked in line with business requirements
General Summary:
To prepare ambulance for operational duty to an agreed quality standard for the benefits of our patients and staff. This will include cleaning, decontaminating, stocking, safety/functional checks of on-board equipment (medical and non-medical) and vehicle roadworthiness checks.
To act autonomously to ensure the continuation of Make Ready Services within the area of responsibility to maximise the availability of our ambulances to deliver patient care.
The role will involve shifts including working nights and weekends.

Core Responsibilities
:
Operational & Support Services:
Vehicles and equipment are clean and ready to meet the stated daily operational requirements. This will include as a minimum:
The cleaning of the inside of the ambulance including all surfaces and equipment to an agreed Infection Prevention and Control Standard.
The decontamination of the inside of the ambulance including all surfaces and equipment to an agreed Infection Prevention and Control standard.
The Cleaning of the external ambulance.
The deep cleaning programme for vehicles is carried and recorded correctly too Elite EMS policy.
The correct scale of stocking of clinical equipment and consumables. This Will include:
The correct levels of stock for the response bags, specialist pouches and equipment with particular attention to ensure all items are within their use by /service dates in accordance with the agreed clinically and operationally approved polices.
Ensuring accurate booking out of any stock and equipment and where required identifying items requiring ordering to ensure adequate stocks are maintained.
Use Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) to ensure vehicles are at all times are correctly stocked with equipment and consumables.
All make ready quality standards set by Elite EMS are met.
The store room is and adequately stocked and clean.
Any request for operational movement of vehicles and equipment is undertaken.
Plan and prepare ambulances to meet strict time deadlines and any other operational requirements.
If required, working at remote and satellite sites.
9. A high level of sustained physical effort in the kitting, de-kitting, cleaning and decontamination of vehicles.
10. To be competent in the use of specialist tools such as pressure washers, steam cleaners and valeting equipment.
11. To assist Fleet services in maintaining the operational serviceability of vehicle fleet by undertaking visual vehicle inspections and minor running repairs to the vehicles.
12. Ability to self-manage workload and priorities without direct supervision.
Quality
Perform cleaning duties to promote and maintain a clean and infection - free patient treatment environment to mitigate the potential transmission of Healthcare Associated infections.
Maintains vehicle, and working area cleanliness which meet the ELITE EMS audit criteria for Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
Verify that the tags on the equipment and modules are correct in accordance with SOPs and identify any remedial actions with manager.
Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management
Compliance with H&SE requirements in the use of all equipment and materials applicable to the Make Ready Role.
To safely move ambulance around the site.
To use correctly and ensure adequate availability of Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE) to undertake the activities of the role.
To identify any hazards that present a risk to staff, patients or visitors to Line Manager.
Ensure appropriate steps are taken to protect the environment, the health and safety of staff, patients and visitors.
To record any adverse incidents or near misses to line manager and accurately record on the Companies Accident book.
Additional Responsibilities
:
Complete additional duties commensurate with the role.
Perform such duties of either a higher or lower rank as may be reasonable from time to time.
The post holder may be required to work at any of Elite EMS sites in line with service needs.
The pattern of work is unpredictable and interruptions can arise frequently during the shift.
The work takes place in an open garage environment which is susceptible to extreme conditions of weather.
The physical requirements of the job include lifting and carry supplies. Physical effort is required to wash vehicles.
To develop oneself within the job and be proactive in identifying own professional development needs.
To contribute towards development and review of the training needs of own peers and colleagues.

Make changes to own practice and offer suggestions for improving services within the governance arrangements of Elite EMS.
Ensure that any service development initiatives take account of the view of key stakeholders including staff.

Supervise Trainees and act as a mentor to other grades of staff including fellow Emergency Care Assistants.
Supervise observers when required to do so.
Elite EMS is committed to supporting the development of all staff. All employees have a responsibility to participate in regular yearly reviews with their manager and to identify performance standards for the post. As part of the review process employees have joint responsibility with their line manager to identify any learning and development needs in order to meet the agreed performance standards.
Confidentiality / Data Protection
Individuals, including self-employed contractors, must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. Individuals must not, without prior permission, disclose any information regarding patients or staff. If any individual has communicated any such information to an unauthorised person that individual(s) could be liable for disciplinary action which could result in dismissal. Moreover, the Data Protection Act 1998 also renders an individual liable for prosecution in the event of unauthorised disclosure of information.
In addition, managers have specific responsibilities to ensure that their staff maintain the confidentiality and security of all information that is dealt with in the course of performing their duties is in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 and the principles of Caldicott. Managers should also ensure that their staff are aware of their obligations under legislation such as the Freedom of Information Act 2000; Computer Misuse Act 1990, and that staff are updated with any changes or additions relevant to legislation.
Health and Safety
All individuals have a responsibility, under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and subsequently published regulations, to ensure that the Elite EMS health and safety policies and procedures are complied with to maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors and employees. All staff have a duty to protect their own health and safety and that of others persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions.
In addition, managers have specific responsibilities relating to health and safety activities including consenting to breaches; conniving to breach legislation or neglecting their duties under the legislation.

Infection Prevention and Control
All individuals have a personal obligation to adhere to current guidance on methods to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs). Post holders must be familiar with the Elite EMS's Infection Prevention and Control Policies, including those that apply to their duties, such as Hand Decontamination Policy, Personal Protective Equipment Policy, safe procedures for using aseptic techniques and safe disposal of sharps. They must undertake mandatory training in Infection Prevention and Control and be compliant with all measures required by Elite EMS and the NHS Trusts to reduce HCAIs.
Risk Management
All post holders have a responsibility to report risks such as clinical and non-clinical accidents or incidents promptly. They are expected to be familiar with Elite EMS's use of risk assessments to predict and control risk, as well as the incident reporting system for learning from mistakes and near misses in order to improve services. Post holders must also attend training identified by their manager, Elite EMS or stated by the NHS Trusts to be mandatory.
All staff are responsible for undertaking scene specific or activity specific risk assessments for non Elite EMS premises and reporting identified problems to their line manager for consideration and resolution.
Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults
Post holders have a responsibility for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults in the course of their daily duties and for ensuring that they are aware of the specific duties relating to their role.
Code of Conduct
All individuals are expected to act in accordance with the Elite EMS and NHS Trust's code of conduct.
Smoke Free Policy
Elite operates a Smoke Free Policy which prohibits smoking in the workplace (this includes e cigarettes). There is a designated smoking area available for those that wish to smoke. Employees are required to observe the rules laid down in the policy and failure to do so may result in disciplinary action being taken.

Individuals are also required to comply with the policies, procedures and protocols in place within Elite EMS. These are available from the Human Resources department or are available on Staffzone.
