The award-winning City of Wolverhampton Council is seeking to recruit a full-time Vehicle Technician to join our dynamic and hardworking Fleet Services team. This role boasts the opportunity to become experienced in the service, repair, and maintenance of a typical municipal vehicle fleet. You will involve working collaboratively together with our team of skilled Vehicle Technicians, responsible for maintaining and servicing all types of vehicles and plant which include Grounds Maintenance machines/equipment and all types of Local Authority vehicles ranging from light commercial vehicles to heavy goods vehicles. The role also includes conducting inspections to DVSA standards.


Training opportunities will include relevant courses such as IMI Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle, Levels 3 & 4, specialist vehicle training, and plant and equipment training. MOT experience is welcomed, and you must be willing to undertake MOT tester training if you are not currently an approved tester.

Role responsibilities:



To inspect service and repair the Council's fleet of commercial vehicles and mobile plant and equipment, including the carrying out of periodic routine roadworthiness inspections. To investigate and diagnose the cause of vehicle and equipment mechanical defects including electrical, transmission, fuel and hydraulic systems and carry out repairs as appropriate. To ensure that all servicing and repair work undertaken complies at all times with the Council's Vehicle Operators Licence and/or to roadworthiness standards as determined by DVSA and monitored by the Traffic Commissioner. To attend to breakdowns and carry out on site repairs as appropriate or assist in the recovery of both broken down vehicles and plant/equipment in all weathers. To take/collect vehicles to/from specialist repairers, servicing agents and MOT testing stations. To accurately complete job cards, service / inspection reports and other paperwork as required.

Role requirements:



Educated to GCSE level or equivalent qualification. City and Guilds Level 2 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent. Euro 6 engine and component training. Experience of employment as a Vehicle Technician. Experience in on-site repairs and vehicle recovery. Experience of dealing with customers face to face. Good all-round knowledge of a broad range of vehicles and equipment. Ability to work as part of a team. Full clean UK Driving Licence.
