Job Description

Reporting to our Head of Student Experience and Operations, your main responsibilities will be to organise and oversee the day-to-day operations?of SU venues and facilities, including coordinating with colleagues on events and ensuring our facilities are exciting, comfortable, safe and accessible for students.

On a day-to-day basis, you will be expected to take ownership to ensure our venue is clean, safe, and welcoming. You'll ensure the union works collaboratively on students' events. You'll act as licensee for our premises and be working with external partners on student safety and relevant accreditations. To achieve this, you will be working with our events and marketing teams, along with union / university colleagues and student networks, sports and social clubs. You will also be building relationships with community leaders, suppliers and other external partnerships / stakeholders.

Your work will enable the Union to provide a vital inclusive facility to address isolation and loneliness amongst students in a vibrant and relevant environment.

Requirements and Qualifications



Valuable assets include a friendly, proactive and empathic approach with students and employees. Awareness of student wellbeing and vulnerability should be key in your decision-making. An understanding of alcohol licensing laws, and health & safety regulations will shape our responsible service of alcohol.

You will be creative and enthused to deliver an exciting and diverse food service, as well as bring ideas for events and promotions to attract students from a variety of backgrounds.

You'll have some finance acumen with basic budgeting, cash handling, and accounting experience with the ability to analyse sales data and optimise pricing or promotions.

Your communication skills should enable you to train and mentor our student employees, giving them clear and concise instructions. The Union can be their first workplace experience, and we aim to provide them with skills and knowledge of a professional working environment.

You will be required to work 5 evenings every fortnight during the week, with occasional weekend working to support BSU and the Union student events, such as open days.

This role requires the successful candidate to undertake a basic DBS check.
