As Operations Manager, you will take ownership of all aspects of event operations -- from planning and documentation to on-site leadership and stakeholder engagement. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that every event meets the highest standards of safety, service, and guest experience, while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation within the team.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Compliance
Ensure compliance with all licensing conditions, safety standards, and regulatory requirements as set out in the Premises Licence and Event Safety Plans.
Lead the operations team across all phases of delivery -- build, live, and break -- ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient execution in real time.
Collaborate closely with the Event Programming Manager and Private Hire team to align operational delivery with creative vision.
Documentation & Reporting
Oversee the creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of event documentation, including operational plans, build and break schedules, staff and supplier briefs.
Champion best practice in internal safety protocols, updating procedures in line with changing regulations and operational needs.
Produce detailed post-event reports and share learnings with the senior team to drive continuous improvement.
Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enhance efficiency, consistency, and guest experience.
Team Leadership
Manage and mentor senior operational staff, ensuring clear role delegation and accountability throughout show cycles.
Recruit, brief, and oversee freelance and agency staff, building a reliable and engaged workforce.

Suppliers & Stakeholder Management
Lead operational relationships with key suppliers including security, traffic management, medical, bars, cleaning, production, and site crew.
Support procurement, briefing, and oversight of suppliers to ensure delivery meets or exceeds expectations.
Monitor supplier costs against budget, escalating risks or variations promptly.
Represent The Dark Horse in discussions with external stakeholders, including local authorities, licensing bodies, and emergency services.
Commercial & Financial Accountability
Contribute to budget planning, monitoring, and reconciliation, proactively identifying risks and opportunities.
Drive cost efficiencies without compromising on quality, safety, or guest experience.
Oversee bar operations, stock management, and cash handling, ensuring accuracy and accountability.
Align operational decision-making with the wider commercial objectives of the project.
About You
We're looking for someone with:
Significant experience in senior operational leadership at a large-scale, multi-purpose venue.
A deep understanding of UK licensing regulations and operational best practices for music and cultural events.
Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with credibility when engaging with promoters, authorities, and emergency services.
A passion for live music and culture, coupled with strong commercial and customer-service acumen.
A calm, solutions-focused approach to crisis management, with the ability to make confident, real-time decisions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with confidence in both internal briefings and external representation.
Proficiency with GDrive, Excel, Google Docs, Slack, and event management tools.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and extended on-site periods during shows.
