About this job

The Venue Technician will carry out duties with due diligence as directed by the Technical Manager including responsibility for ensuring that safe working practices are adhered to at all times on work carried out in the get in, fit up, show running and get out of productions.

To work alongside other technical staff and casuals to create a safe and welcoming environment. To take responsibility for all technical equipment and to undertake in the training and safe operation of such equipment.

The Venue Technician will support the Technical Department on a wide range of activities including performances, rehearsals, workshops, meetings, weddings, parties and commercial events.

Key Responsibilities

Setting up, operation and maintenance of technical equipment in accordance with the audio, lighting and video for various events including concerts, rehearsals, theatrical performances and corporate events. Ensure all technical operations adhere to health and safety regulations, conducting risk assessments and implementing safe working practices. Collaborate with event organizers, performers, and other technical staff to meet specific event requirements and ensure smooth operations. Perform regular maintenance and repairs on technical equipment, keeping an inventory of supplies and ordering new materials as needed. Quickly identify and resolve technical issues during events to minimize disruptions. Train and supervise casual staff and volunteers on the safe operation of technical equipment. Oversee the efficient and safe loading and unloading of equipment, ensuring all items are correctly handled and stored. Assist in the building and dismantling of sets, stages, and other event structures, ensuring they are constructed safely and according to specifications. Coordinate with suppliers and transport teams to ensure timely delivery and removal of equipment and materials. Keep track of all technical and set-building materials, ensuring everything is accounted for before and after events. Work closely with other technical staff, stagehands, and event organizers to ensure smooth transitions during load-in and load-out phases. Inspect all set pieces and technical equipment for damage or wear, making necessary repairs or replacements to maintain high standards.
Essential skills and experience

Experience as a Technician, in a live performance venue working on a wide range of events. Demonstrable knowledge, skills and experience of a relevant technical discipline, preferably electrics or sound. Knowledge of venue and event health and safety management. Experience of rigging and focusing lighting, sound and AV equipment. Experience of, and ability to, work at height and of using a broad range of access equipment. Confidence in manual handling tasks, including stage builds, setting out seating, rigging and setting up equipment. Organisational and time management skills, with attention to detail and consistent high standards. A positive problem-solver: flexible, adaptable and solutions-driven Good written and verbal communication skills Good IT skills - confident with all Microsoft Office applications Passionate about people, communities, diversity and inclusion
Desirable skills and experience

Knowledge of Yamaha analogue and digital sound desks Operating and programming an ETC EOS lighting desks Experience of live sound mixing.
