Kilmarnock, SCT, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Explore your full potential

We are looking for an experienced ambulatory farm animal vet to join our team for 6-12 months to provide maternity cover. Based at our Large Animal Clinic in Symington, this role offers a varied caseload of routine and emergency farm animal work, along with participation in four-yearly TB testing. The successful candidate will be motivated to deliver excellent clinical care and client service, while enjoying the support and camaraderie of a close-knit team.

The role averages 40 hours per week on a rota basis, including participation in our 2 in 8 out-of-hours rota, with time off in lieu for weekend duties. Flexible working patterns may be available, and we welcome applications from enthusiastic, proactive vets who are adaptable, team-oriented, and committed to the highest standards of farm veterinary practice.
This fixed-term contract will place you at the heart of our farm team, working within a multidisciplinary environment where collaboration and flexibility are highly valued.

About MBM Vets

MBM Veterinary Group is a long-established, progressive and friendly practice located near the beautiful Ayrshire coast, with excellent road and rail links to Glasgow and central Scotland. We operate across four branches in Kilmarnock, Mauchline, Beith and Symington, where our farm team is based.

We are proud to provide species-specific care through our dedicated farm and small animal teams. Our farm clients include over 100 dairy and 200 beef herds, along with a smaller number of commercial and pedigree sheep flocks. Most are family-run enterprises, and we are fortunate to work with many progressive farms, including a previous Gold Cup winner. Many of our dairies benefit from routine fertility visits and our Calf Health Club.

In February 2024, we moved into our purpose-built farm and equine facility in Symington. Here you will have access to everything you need to provide a top-quality service: Easi-scans, Dairymate and TotalVet software, bovine laparoscopes, bull and tup breeding soundness equipment, a WOPA mobile hydraulic foot crush, and a fully equipped in-house laboratory including Ova-cyte. We are also supported by three vet techs and a dedicated farm receptionist.

Set on Scotland's west coast, Ayrshire is renowned for its stunning beaches, world-class golf courses, and cultural heritage as the home of Robert Burns. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the area offers a wealth of opportunities, and with Glasgow only 30 minutes away, you're never far from the city either.

About the Team and Culture

Our farm team is made up of nine dedicated vets, including four Advanced Practitioners and one RCVS Recognised Specialist, together bringing over 90 years of collective experience. We pride ourselves on being a supportive and welcoming group. We run quarterly clinical clubs (with cooking duties shared on a rota!) and regular case catch-ups over tea and cake.

We encourage the development of clinical interests and provide generous support for CPD, along with RCVS, VDS, BVA and an additional professional membership. You'll also benefit from a comprehensive package of non-clinical perks, all designed to help you thrive both in and out of practice.
