Veterinary Surgeon Small Animal

Ottery Saint Mary, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Salary up to 65,000 DOE , welcome bonus up to 5,000 and relocation allowance up to 5,000

Looking for a new role where you can enjoy great clinical variety, a genuinely supportive team, and a meaningful connection to the local community? At Otter Vets, we're proud to have been caring for pets in Sidmouth and Ottery St Mary for over 150 years and we're now looking for an experienced Small Animal Vet to join our friendly and passionate team.

Your Day, Your Space, Your Impact

This role is primarily based at our Sidmouth branch however you'll also need to travel regularly to our Ottery St Mary site. Our Sidmouth branch is currently undergoing some thoughtful modernisation. The space includes a cosy reception, one consult room backing onto a well-stocked dispensary, a large and light operating theatre, kennels and cattery, in-house lab, office space and a staff area with endless tea, coffee, and (of course) biscuits. There are some elements of sole charge, so being confident in your clinical skills is key.

Our caseload is a lovely mix, mostly cats and dogs, with a few small furries and the occasional chicken thrown in. Days tend to be well-balanced between consultations and surgery, with dedicated admin time each day to stay on top of notes without feeling rushed. Surgeries are mostly routine, spays, castrates, lump removals and soft tissue procedures but there's always the option to refer orthopaedics if needed.

We're well equipped with digital X-ray, ultrasound, tonometer, and an IDEXX suite, and you'll be supported by our brilliant nurses who assist with both surgery and consults and run their own nurse clinics too.

Be Part of a Practice That Gives Back

What sets us apart isn't just the care we give in clinic but the way we stay connected to the wider community. From hosting dog shows and coffee mornings to offering annual community grants, we believe in giving back. In 2025, we're proud to be supporting Hounds for Heroes and Sidmouth Independent Lifeboats, just one more way we keep compassion at the heart of what we do.

Flexibility That Works Around You

This is a full-time role, working 40 hours per week over 4 or 5 days, with just 1 in 4 Saturday mornings (8:30am-1pm) and no out-of-hours. That said, we're all about finding the right fit so, if you're looking for part-time hours, school-time shifts, or something a bit more flexible, we'd love to chat about what works best for you.

If you're looking to join a welcoming, close-knit team in a stunning part of the country where you can grow your career, feel valued, and truly make a difference this could be your perfect next chapter.

A Welcoming Team That Has Your Back

We may be small in number, but our team is mighty in care, commitment, and camaraderie. You'll be working alongside 2 experienced vets, 4 dedicated RVNs, and 4 fantastic support team members who keep the day running smoothly and always bring a smile. Whether you're sharing cases, enjoying a biscuit in the break room, or lending each other a hand in a tricky consult, the sense of team spirit here is real and it's what makes Otter Vets such a rewarding place to work.

If you enjoy mentoring or want to help shape the next generation of vets and nurses, there's room for that here too (though it's not a must). What matters most is that you're approachable, compassionate, and ready to be part of something special.
