This role is critical to ensuring consistent audio quality, production efficiency, and equipment reliability throughout the vinyl manufacturing process. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with record presses, a strong mechanical aptitude, and a passion for high-quality analog sound.
Key ResponsibilitiesPress Operation & Production
Operate manual and/or automated vinyl record presses
Set up presses for different formats (7", 10", 12", standard and heavyweight)
Monitor press cycles, temperatures, pressures, and cooling times
Ensure consistent quality across production runs
Quality Control
Inspect records for visual and audio defects (non-fill, warping, surface noise, off-center pressings)
Perform test press evaluations and make process adjustments as needed
Maintain high standards for audio fidelity and physical finish
Equipment Maintenance
Perform routine maintenance on presses, molds, stampers, and auxiliary equipment
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues
Coordinate repairs and part replacements to minimize downtime
Stamper & Tooling Management
Install, align, and remove stampers
Track stamper life cycles and wear
Work closely with plating and production teams to ensure proper tooling
Safety & Workflow
Follow all safety procedures related to high heat, pressure, and machinery
Keep work areas clean, organized, and production-ready
Assist in improving workflows and production efficiency
QualificationsRequired
Proven experience operating vinyl record presses (Toolex, SMT, Finebilt, Alpha, Pheenix, or similar)
Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
Understanding of vinyl pressing variables and defect prevention
Ability to lift heavy components and work on your feet for extended periods
Attention to detail and commitment to quality
Preferred
Experience with both manual and automated presses
Basic electrical or hydraulic systems knowledge
Familiarity with audio mastering and lacquer/stamper preparation
Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
