Virtual School Tutor Science

--------------------------------

Job description
Full Time and Term Time / 32.5 Hours Per Week / Permanent

Play a key role in supporting looked after children and young people to achieve their potential.

The Virtual School Team works to support and enrich the learning of Leicester's Children and Young People who are looked after. We aim to narrow the attainment gap between our young people and their non-looked after peers.

Join our small but dedicated team who go the extra mile to support our young people. Working closely with Headteachers, SENCOs and subject teachers, we support pupils to make progress and attain their potential in school. As a valued member our team, you'll provide high quality and focussed teaching in a 1 to 1 or small group setting, either online or face to face.

You'll be based at New Parks House however you'll be required to travel across the city. This is a full-time, term-time, permanent post, working 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. You'll work during term time and school inset days.

What you'll be doing

You'll be allocated a caseload of young people aged from 5 to 17 who need further focussed teaching to help them to catch up or to cover learning gaps that have been identified as a barrier to progress. Working in collaboration with and supported other members of the team, you may be required to teach any subject at any level. Using data intelligently, you'll monitor, track, intervene and support the progress of our looked after children and young people. Additionally, you may be required to attend and participate in multiagency and PEP meetings. Furthermore, you'll support the work of social workers and other colleagues by offering advice on educational matters and the PEP process.

What you'll need

You'll be qualified to teach primary or secondary aged children and young people, with recent experience teaching in a primary or secondary school. With a good understanding of the impact of trauma and attachment, you'll be able to work with carers, Social Workers, and school staff to find appropriate and creative solutions and strategies to raise educational attainment. You'll be able to forge positive working relationships with young people who can be challenging. Resilient and with a good sense of humour, you'll be able to adopt a nurturing and can-do attitude towards the young people and their progress.

This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check. The ability to drive and have access to a car to travel between tuition sessions is an advantage.

What we can offer you

As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. We'll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities. In addition, you can choose from a number of flexible benefits, including childcare vouchers, discounts on city buses and trains and help with relocation to Leicester, where appropriate. For an illustrative value of your benefits package, take a look at our benefits calculator.
