The Vision Rehabilitation Officer (VRO) plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with visual impairments to enhance their independence and quality of life. This position involves assessing clients' needs, developing tailored rehabilitation plans, and providing training in the use of assistive technologies and daily living skills. The VRO will work collaboratively with clients, their families, and other professionals to facilitate effective rehabilitation outcomes.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' vision-related needs and capabilities.
Develop and implement individualised rehabilitation plans that address specific goals and objectives.
Provide training in the use of assistive devices, orientation and mobility skills, and daily living activities.
Offer emotional support and guidance to clients and their families throughout the rehabilitation process.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals, educators, and community resources to ensure holistic support for clients.
Maintain accurate records of client progress and adapt rehabilitation plans as necessary.
Stay updated on the latest developments in vision rehabilitation practices and technologies.
Qualifications
A relevant degree or qualification in vision rehabilitation, occupational therapy, or a related field is essential.
Experience working with individuals who have visual impairments is highly desirable.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Proficiency in using assistive technology for vision impairment is an advantage.
Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in documentation and reporting.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
