The University of Chester's Centre for Foundation Studies is seeking to appoint Visiting Lecturers to teach on a range of modules for the foundation year of our four-year degrees
The Centre for Foundation Studies teaches over 500 students undertaking the first (foundation) year of their four-year integrated bachelor's degree prior to progressing into faculties. Our teaching focus is on transition to higher education and there is an expectation that all teaching staff are able to support student engagement and retention and progression strategies.
Applicants will typically be qualified to master's level. Experience of teaching and assessment is required. Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate ability to use their interest in the subject area to enthuse students in groups of typically around 30-35. The current hourly rate of pay for Visiting Lecturer work is 52.56 per hour.
Modules at the Centre are taught in three 10-week terms, running Oct-Dec, Jan-Mar and Apr-Jun. Below are the modules requiring Visiting Lecturers:
Term 1:
Introduction to Scientific Principles Introduction to Business Principles & Skills
Law and Criminal Justice (Criminology)
Exploring Professional Practice (Nursing / Midwifery, Education, Social Work) - Chester and Birkenhead campuses
Term 2:
Essentials of Marketing
Essential of Business Management
Animal Biology Human Body, Health and Disease
Term 3:
Research in Law and Criminology
Business in a Global World
Originating a Practitioner Project
Academic Skills embedded within subject modules across Terms 1 and 2:
Creative Industries modules
Computer Science modules
Humanities and Social science module
Professional Studies modules - Warrington campus
+ Other modules listed above
The hourly rate includes development of some new learning materials to accompany current materials and the creation and marking of students' assessments.
