About Dynamic Earth



Dynamic Earth is the UK's leading earth science engagement charity, with a mission to empower people with an understanding and empathy for the Earth and its future. We do this by providing compelling engagement at our world-class Science Centre and Planetarium in Edinburgh, as well as through our learning and engagement programmes across Scotland. We recently published a bold new 10-year strategy - From Beginning to Mend - along with a powerful new brand, to help us reach more people and to embed climate change across everything we do.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE



We are currently recruiting friendly, outgoing and enthusiastic staff to work within our visitor attraction on a zero-hour contract until [Date Placeholder] however some positions could become permanent depending on the performance of successful applicants and the needs of the business.

These positions are to assist within the exhibition guiding visitors through their journey, presenting factual scientific information whilst engaging with visitors to uphold our quality standards. Applicants must also be available to work weekends and weekdays and the occasional evening, as shifts are variable dependant on our daily opening/closing times.

Whilst the job description encompasses the overall Visitor Experience role - candidates will be positioned in one of the 2 roles within that best suit their strengths. This would be either operations or science engagement.

DUTIES



Welcome and orientate guests throughout the tour, Present information on earth sciences to groups of visitors which accurately represents and brings to life key messages within the exhibition, Handle customer enquiries and complaints in an efficient and friendly manner applying a very proactive customer focused approach, Maintain a high standard of punctuality and personal appearance, Ensure that all public areas are always tidy and presentable.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ATTRIBUTES



Essential



The ideal candidates will be enthusiastic, warm and friendly, with excellent verbal communication skills and a genuine interest in working with people. A positive attitude is essential plus the ability to keep visitors well informed while adhering to operational procedures.

Desirable



Prior experience in science or science communication would be an advantage, but are not essential, as full training will be given. A willingness to broaden your understanding of various science topics to improve the visitor experience would be expected.

Recruitment for this role will take place on Friday 19th September

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 3 months

Pay: 12.60 per hour
