We are looking for a Vocational Instructor to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with either:
A background in the construction or engineering industry
and a passion for passing on skills, or
A teaching or training background
with the ability to engage learners in vocational education.
Working alongside our time served and experienced vocational instructor team you will be responsible for delivering both theory and practical vocational sessions (e.g. carpentry, brickwork, basic plumbing or multi-trade, tiling, engineering) in a workshop/classroom setting, ensuring that learners develop both technical ability and workplace behaviours.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, practical construction lessons tailored to learner needs and abilities
Support learners to develop employability skills, confidence, and positive attitudes toward learning
Promote and model safe working practices at all times
Monitor learner progress, providing regular feedback and recording achievements
Work collaboratively with support staff, mentors and other instructors
Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment
Maintain tools, equipment and workshop spaces in line with health and safety guidelines
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Practical knowledge and experience in one or more areas of construction or engineering (e.g. carpentry, bricklaying, painting & decorating, plastering, plumbing, etc.)
A genuine passion for working with young people, especially those with additional learning or behavioural needs
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners
Willingness to work towards a teaching or assessing qualification if not already held
Desirable:
Experience of working in an educational or training setting
A teaching qualification (e.g. PTLLS, AET, Cert Ed, PGCE)
A relevant assessor qualification (e.g. TAQA, A1)
Knowledge of SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and/or SLC (Speech, Language and Communication) support
