Volunteering Matters are urgently looking for Volunteer Befrienders in Blaenau Gwent.

Loneliness and isolation are a major problem for older people everywhere. Do you have an hour or two per week available to visit a lonely and isolated person aged 50+, living locally to you? Could you provide friendly chat and companionship for someone who might be amongst your community's most vulnerable? You could make a real difference to an isolated older person.

Volunteer Befrienders are needed to provide conversation and company for isolated older people in Blaenau Gwent as a whole. We are looking for reliable, empathetic individuals who are good at listening to help lonely and isolated people get more out of life.

It might offering a friendly chat or helping them access activities in their community, we aim to ensure everyone is socially included in their local community.

By volunteering as a Befriender you will be helping others while getting enjoyment out of it yourself. You will be helping make the lives of older people in your community happier. healthier and more complete.

All volunteers will have to undergo a DBS check and supply 2 character references.

Please note this is an unpaid volunteering role.

Responsibilities

Engage in meaningful conversations with individuals, providing companionship and emotional support. Foster a positive environment by actively listening and responding to the needs of those you support. Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance communication and skills.
