Job Description

Swim England is seeking a Volunteer Commonwealth Games Assistant Team Manager. Following the outstanding success of Team England's Swimming and Para Swimming squads at the Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Swim England is determined to build on this momentum for the 2026 Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
In order for the team to have a successful Games, the key responsibilities for the Assistant Team Manager role are;
Support the Team Leader, Lead Team Manager and wider Swim England Commonwealth Games Leadership team.
During Games time, be one of the operational points of contact with the Commonwealth Games England staff.
In conjunction with the Leadership Team, ensure effective communication with all staff and athletes.
Work collaboratively with the Lead Team Manager to ensure the one team philosophy allows for a seamless approach in helping secure the objectives of the team for the duration of the campaign.
Within the team, exhibit and promote the values that are in line with Commonwealth Games England and Swim England.
Uphold all governance requirements across the team throughout, including but not limited to anti-doping and clean games requirements.
Be responsible for ensuring effective safeguarding and welfare of both the athletes and the workforce.
Provide support, guidance and communication to games team staff in a timely and appropriate manner.
Participate in the appropriate 'debrief' session if required.
Contribute to the Team Managers' report on the Games to contribute to the holistic post-games review.

Supporting the pathway to Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032.
Unifying "One Team England".
Enhancing the strength and depth of the sport.
Investing in people - athletes, coaches, practitioners and team staff.
Increasing engagement in aquatics across the country.
Dates for Availability
TBC dependent on availability, inclusive of key dates:
Relay Camp 14th - 16th December
AP Camp and competition 20th - 26th May 2026
Holding Camp: 13th July - 20th July 2026 TBC
Games time: 20th July -31st July 2026
Skills and Experience Required
Experience
Essential:
Experience in team management assignments with aquatics internationally.
Working within an international competition environment.
Desirable:
Team Manager experience at an international competition with senior athletes
Knowledge
Essential:
Completion of Team Manager modules 1 and 2 (England).
UKAD (UK Anti-Doping) advisor guidance and doping control testing protocols (UKAD Complete Clean+ certificate).
Swim England Safeguarding Certificate (including working knowledge of Wavepower).
WA (World Aquatics)/WPA (World Para Swimming)/CGF (Commonwealth Games Federation) rules and regulations.
Knowledge and understanding of swimming and Para-swimming competition practices and protocols.
Valid Swim England DBS.
Desirable:
Mental Health First Aid qualified
Skills and Abilities
Essential:
Excellent event planning and organisation.
Effective communication skills.
Problem solving and prioritisation.
A team player able to show professional behaviours, using own initiative and able to exhibit tact and diplomacy in all interpersonal relationships.
Desirable:
Administration (use of Word, Excel, Communication and social media platforms).
Event management experience.
Financial (float) planning, monitoring and administration (float reconciliations).
Please note that this role is on a volunteer basis and is home-, Loughborough- and Glasgow-based. Travel to identified domestic (including preparation camp) and potentially international camps/competitions as required.
