Purpose of the Role

To provide professional HR support and advice to the organisation, ensuring good people practices, compliance with employment legislation, and constructive support for staff and managers. This role helps strengthen the charity's internal HR capability and contributes to a positive, safe and effective working environment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Advisory



Provide HR advice to managers and trustees on people matters, such as recruitment, performance, conduct, absence and wellbeing. Support the development and review of people policies and procedures. Help develop HR frameworks, for example onboarding, induction, performance and capability processes. Contribute to workforce planning, volunteer engagement and organisational culture initiatives.

Casework and Operations



Support low level HR casework under supervision, for example informal absence reviews or note taking in meetings. Assist with drafting letters, meeting notes, and documentation that supports fair and consistent practice. Help review or update employee and volunteer records in line with data protection. Provide HR related guidance to volunteer teams or coordinators when required.

Learning and Development



Support identification of training needs and help source or design learning resources. Share best practice insights on employment law and HR trends relevant to the organisation.

Compliance and Safeguarding

Maintain confidentiality and act in line with safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion expectations. Flag any concerns relating to risk, safeguarding or inappropriate practices to the designated lead.

Person Specification

Essential



HR experience at adviser or business partner level. Strong understanding of UK employment law and HR good practice. Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with staff and volunteers. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Strong organisational and documentation skills.

Desirable



Experience in the charity or voluntary sector. CIPD qualification or working towards one. * Experience advising on safeguarding matters.
