About Us
Established in 1986, Soup Kitchen London supports the homeless, elderly, lonely, and vulnerable by offering free meals, clothing, mental health support, and a sense of belonging. We serve over 200 guests each day with dignity, compassion, and professionalism. In 2019, we launched Europe's first on-site mental health drop-in clinic within a soup kitchen.
The Role
We're looking for a dynamic, organised, and compassionate
Volunteer Lead
to oversee our volunteer engagement and street outreach initiatives. This is a hands-on, people-focused role suited to someone who thrives in a busy environment and enjoys working with both corporate and community volunteers.

Zoom orientation sessions
, and serve as the
Evening Welcomer
--ensuring every volunteer and guest feels valued, safe, and supported.
Flexibility is key. Hours will vary based on outreach schedules, volunteer sessions, and events, so we're looking for someone comfortable adjusting their timetable to meet the needs of a fast-moving, people-centred charity.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate Soup Kitchen London's
street outreach programme
, engaging directly with people sleeping rough or at risk.
Manage volunteer communications
--including responding to enquiries, sending updates, and organising corporate volunteering groups.
Oversee our
Eventbrite page
, ensuring volunteer listings and events are up to date.
Schedule and host
Zoom meetings
and orientation sessions for new volunteers.
Plan and coordinate major volunteer events such as the
Thames Trek
.
Welcome and brief evening volunteers, ensuring all roles and responsibilities are clear.
Support the kitchen and cabin teams to maintain smooth service and a positive environment.
De-escalate challenging situations in a calm, respectful, and professional manner.
Represent Soup Kitchen London with warmth, integrity, and professionalism at all times.
What We're Looking For
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.
Confidence engaging with both vulnerable individuals and corporate partners.
Calm, compassionate, and assertive presence in unpredictable situations.
Experience using Eventbrite (desirable but not required).
A genuine commitment to social impact and supporting those experiencing homelessness or vulnerability.
Previous experience in outreach, homelessness services, or community engagement is a plus.
