We are looking to recruit a specialist volunteer to assist our general volunteers with our growing book department, in our 100% volunteer community shop.

This is a VOLUNTEER ROLE, NOBODY in our organisation is paid, so more of our revenue can go to our charity partners and good causes. This role is exempt from the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage, it's UNPAID.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, pricing, categorising, displaying the huge collection of books both in-store and online, assisting visitors, and ensuring a welcoming environment for all users. Duties

Organise and catalogue books etc, ensuring easy access for users Assist visitors in locating books and other materials Provide excellent customer service by addressing enquiries and offering guidance Manage administrative tasks such as pricing, online selling, updating records, and shipping Help to Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the shop and work areas Assist to Plan and promote community programmes, events, and community outreach activities Monitor the condition of library stock/materials and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed

Requirements

Proven experience in customer service roles, preferably within a retail, library or educational environment Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently Basic IT skills, including familiarity with online bookshops and digital resources Administrative experience to handle record keeping, data entry, and reporting tasks Excellent communication skills and a friendly demeanour to engage with diverse visitors Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy environment A passion for literacy, education, and community development is highly desirable
