Volunteer Marketing And Communications Assistant

Scarborough, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About the Role

Are you creative, organised, and passionate about mental health awareness?
Would you like to use your skills to help make a difference in your local community?

We're looking for a Volunteer Marketing & Communications Assistant to help promote the work of Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind. This is a brilliant opportunity to gain hands-on experience in charity communications while supporting a cause that changes lives.

You'll help us raise awareness of mental health, share inspiring stories, and promote local fundraising and wellbeing events through social media, newsletters, and community channels.

About SWR Mind

Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind is a small, local mental health charity providing advice, support, and services to help people across our area live well and stay well.
We're part of the wider Mind Federation but operate independently, meaning all funds raised stay local to support our community.

Our communications play a vital role in reaching people who need us, inspiring supporters, and building a stronger, more connected community.

What You'll Do

Help create and schedule posts for our Facebook, Instagram, and other social channels using Canva. Support the creation of newsletters, posters, and community materials. Write or edit short stories, updates, and features about our work and events. Assist with promoting local fundraising campaigns and awareness events. Keep our communications consistent, positive, and in line with SWR Mind's values. Help capture feedback, photos, or stories from events (where possible).

What We're Looking For

You don't need to be a marketing expert -- just someone with enthusiasm, creativity, and a willingness to learn.

We'd love to hear from you if you:

Have an interest in marketing, design, writing, or social media. Are creative and comfortable using tools like Canva or social media platforms. Have good written communication skills and attention to detail. Can work independently but enjoy being part of a small, friendly team. Are reliable and organised.
Experience in marketing, communications, or charity work is welcome but not essential -- full guidance and support will be provided.

What You'll Gain

Real experience in marketing and communications within a local charity. A chance to use your creativity for good and raise awareness about mental health. Support and mentoring from SWR Mind's Funding and Communications Coordinator. Opportunities to develop new digital and design skills. Valuable experience to add to your CV and references for future roles. Flexibility to volunteer from home or in our office.

Time Commitment

Flexible to suit you - ideally a few hours each week, with the option to work remotely.
