About The Hive Youth Zone

The Hive Youth Zone is a charity dedicated to providing young people with a safe, fun, and supportive environment. We offer a variety of activities and programs designed to give young people somewhere to go, something to do, and someone to talk to. Our mission is to empower young people to reach their full potential - both on and off the pitch.

Role Overview

Are you passionate about football and ready to inspire the next generation? As a Volunteer Mentor, you'll be a positive role model for young people aged 8-19 (or up to 25 for those with additional needs), helping them develop confidence, build skills, and achieve their goals. Whether it's through kicking a ball around, talking about teamwork, or sharing life lessons from the game, you'll make a difference in a young person's life.

The mentoring commitment involves spending 1-2 hours per week with a young person over a period of 6-12 months, depending on their individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

One-on-One Mentoring:

Use your love for football to connect with and inspire young people during regular, meaningful sessions.

Teamwork & Skills Development:

Share how the principles of football - like teamwork, perseverance, and resilience - can apply to life.

Listening & Guidance:

Offer emotional support and a non-judgmental space for young people to share their thoughts and challenges.

Goal Setting:

Help young people set and achieve personal and developmental goals, much like setting goals on the pitch.

Activity Participation:

Get involved in football games, other sports, or activities organized by The Hive.

Safeguarding:

Adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the safety and well-being of all young people.

Ideal Candidate

Football Fanatic:

Whether you play, coach, or just love the game, you're passionate about how football can inspire and unite people.

Empathetic and Approachable:

You connect easily with young people and understand their challenges.

Good Communicator:

You can share advice, stories, and support in an engaging way.

Reliable and Committed:

You're ready to commit 1-2 hours per week for 6-12 months.

Positive Role Model:

Your attitude on and off the pitch inspires young people.

Experience:

Prior experience working with young people or in football is a plus, but not required - we'll provide training!

Requirements

Enhanced DBS check (provided by The Hive) Availability to commit to 1-2 hours per week for 6-12 months Attendance at initial training sessions and periodic development workshops

Benefits

Gain experience mentoring and inspiring young people in a dynamic, football-friendly environment. Develop leadership, communication, and mentoring skills. Be part of a supportive and passionate team dedicated to youth development. Share your love for football while making a lasting impact on a young person's life.
