Stepping Stones Together ABA Social Club is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic
Volunteer Play Assistant
to support autistic children in developing social and play skills within a structured and supportive environment. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working with children with special educational needs (SEN) and want to make a meaningful impact in their lives. The Volunteer Play Assistant will help facilitate activities, encourage positive peer interactions, and ensure the well-being of the children during club sessions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the planning and delivery of structured play sessions designed to enhance social interaction, communication, and cooperation among autistic children.
Supervise and actively engage with children during play-based activities, ensuring a safe, positive, and inclusive environment.
Encourage and model appropriate social skills, including turn-taking, sharing, and effective communication.
Work collaboratively with Behaviour Analysts (BCBAs), ABA tutors, and other volunteers to implement structured play and behaviour support strategies.
Monitor children's engagement and progress, offering gentle support and encouragement as needed.
Assist with setting up and tidying away play equipment and resources before and after sessions.
Provide feedback to the session leaders about children's participation and any notable observations.
Follow safeguarding and health & safety procedures to ensure the well-being of all children in attendance.
Qualifications and Skills:
A passion for supporting autistic children and children with additional needs in a social setting.
A passion for working with children, particularly those with SEN or in a play-based setting.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage children in play and interact effectively with parents and professionals.
Patience, empathy, and a willingness to learn about autism and ABA principles.
Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
Basic understanding of safeguarding procedures (training will be provided).
