VOLUNTEER WARD ASSISTANT



Location: Turnchapel



Overview of role requirements



To assist the Turnchapel teams of reception, clinical admin and nurses with the responsibility of keeping the workplace safe, tidy and a pleasant place to work.

The following are examples of the tasks that need doing from time to time, and the post holder will support the teams in those areas where their skills and capabilities allow, and as agreed with the teams:

Flowers / vase changes

Laundry cages brought in, putting away of laundry and removal of laundry cages

Tidying of conservatory.

Clearing left over dishes/cups from wards to kitchen, but no kitchen or catering involved

Ensuring foyer at main entrance kept clear and safe

Will require a good level of physical fitness to carry out general porterage of furniture and equipment when necessary

Plant watering, distribution of general deliveries, post and messages around the unit

Your role



To be able to approach reception, clinical admin and the nurses to see what is needed during your shift, as well as keeping an eye on the general tidying.

Your Qualities



Please note whilst the above is a range of tasks undertaken, no one volunteer will be expected to have the skills to undertake all these tasks.

Skills/qualities expected: ideally we are looking for a friendly, cheerful, approachable person, and someone who feels able to go into a ward of quite poorly people to retrieve cups and plates with a smile and a softly spoken voice. Someone who is happy to work on their own to change the vases and flowers as required, and is confident enough to go into other offices to deliver messages and packages.
