We are seeking experienced and committed Waking Night Residential Support Workers to join our team as part of an exciting new residential childcare project. The successful candidates will demonstrate a nurturing and professional approach to care, maintaining high standards and contributing to a safe, consistent, and supportive environment for the children and young people in our care.
About the Home
Our children's home, located in Gravesend, provides residential accommodation for up to three children and young people of both genders, aged 10 to 18 years. The home offers a safe and stable environment where children can develop resilience, build positive relationships, and achieve their potential.
The Role
The Waking Night Residential Support Worker will be responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of the young people throughout the night. This includes providing appropriate support and supervision, responding to any incidents or emergencies, and maintaining a calm and therapeutic environment that promotes rest and emotional stability.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all young people during night hours.
Provide consistent support in accordance with individual care, behaviour, and risk management plans.
Respond appropriately to behavioural or emotional incidents, following agreed procedures.
Conduct regular welfare, health, and security checks throughout the night.
Maintain accurate written records, including incident reports, night logs, and handovers to day staff.
Support young people with any personal care or emotional needs that may arise overnight.
Contribute to household duties and ensure the home environment remains safe, clean, and welcoming.
Safeguard and promote the welfare of children in line with statutory guidance and organisational policies.

Person Specification
Essential:
Experience of working within a residential childcare or similar setting.
Ability to work waking night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays, as part of a rota.
Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviour appropriately.
Flexible, reliable, and committed to promoting positive outcomes for young people.
Desirable:
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards this qualification.
Full UK driving licence.
Experience of working with young people who have experienced trauma, emotional or behavioural difficulties, or communication challenges.
