About the Role
As a
Waking Night Support Worker
, you'll provide consistent, attentive care through the night--ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and comfort of children and young people.
Working a regular 2-week rolling rota (4 shifts one week, 3 the next, including weekend nights), you'll be there to offer reassurance, respond to needs, and ensure the home stays calm and secure until morning. You'll also work closely with our daytime team to ensure smooth, joined-up care.
Key Responsibilities
Provide tailored, overnight care that meets each young person's needs
Support personal care and daily living tasks where required
Maintain a calm, safe, and nurturing environment throughout the night
Monitor wellbeing and behaviour, reporting any concerns promptly
Communicate effectively with children, families, and colleagues to ensure continuity of care
Keep accurate records of overnight observations and activities
Respond appropriately to incidents or emergencies
Contribute to care plans and follow agreed support strategies
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Experience working with children or young people (residential or similar setting)
Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust and positive relationships
Patience, empathy, resilience, and a genuine commitment to making a difference
Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies
Flexibility to work waking night shifts, including weekends
Ability to work well as part of a team
Desirable:
NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or Children and Young People's Workforce
First aid certification
Experience managing challenging behaviours
Full driving licence
