Yaffle Care is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as Waking Night Support Workers at our SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) children's home in Hampshire. In this role, you will play a crucial part in helping children with complex emotional needs achieve stability, growth, and independence. Responsibilities
Provide high-quality care and supervision for young people during the night shift.
Ensure a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for children with SEMH needs while they sleep.
Respond to any incidents, disturbances, or emotional needs that arise during the night.
Monitor the children's well-being and behaviour through the night and take appropriate action if necessary.
Conduct regular checks on the children in line with their individual care plans, documenting observations and incidents.
Support the emotional and psychological needs of the children, providing reassurance and de-escalation techniques where needed.
Assist with any nightly routines such as medication administration (if required) or personal care tasks.
Maintain detailed and accurate records of the night's activities, incidents, and updates.
Collaborate with day staff to ensure a smooth handover and continuity of care.
Follow all safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the welfare and safety of all children in the home.
Skills
Essential:
Compassionate, empathetic, and able to offer emotional support to young people with complex needs.
Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging or emergency situations.
Excellent observation and communication skills.
Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail.
Willingness to work throughout the night on a regular basis, including weekends and holidays. (4 on 4 off)
Desirable:
Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEMH needs or in a residential care setting.
NVQ Level 3 in Children's Residential Care (or a willingness to work towards it).
Previous experience in a similar waking night role.
Basic knowledge of safeguarding and child protection principles.
Full UK driving licence (preferred but not essential).
