Job Summary:
The role of a support worker plays a vital role in ensuring the well-being and safety of the servicers, providing a supportive and caring environment for individuals with varying needs. This position involves direct interaction with service users and teamwork within the service.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support:
Provide day-to-day care, support, and supervision to vulnerable adults.
Foster a welcoming and non-judgmental atmosphere to create a sense of community.
Supporting each service user in a person-centred way.
2. Support Planning:
Follow and implement individualised support and care plans in collaboration with professionals, family, advocates and Safe Sanctuary Living's staff and management team.
Help service users set and work towards their personal goals.
Encourage service users to develop self-confidence and independence.
3. Crisis Intervention:
Be prepared to respond to crises or emergencies, such as emotional distress or conflicts, offering clear advice and guidance as per company policies and procedures.
Follow established protocols for handling critical incidents and seeking appropriate assistance when needed.
4. Safety and Security:
Ensure the safety and security of service users within the service.
Conduct regular safety checks and monitor access to the premises.
Report any safety concerns, maintenance issues, or facility needs promptly to your team leaders and management team.
5. Documentation:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of young people interactions, progress, and incidents.
Complete required paperwork, including incident reports and shift logs.
6. Communication:
Communicate effectively with service users via their preferred method of communication, fellow staff members, and supervisory personnel.
Attend staff meetings, case reviews, and training sessions as required.
7. Advocacy and Referrals:
Advocate on behalf of service users to access needed services, benefits, and resources.
Refer service users to appropriate external agencies and support services when necessary.
Qualifications and Skills:
Working as a support worker can be highly rewarding as you directly impact the lives of individuals, helping them to overcome challenges and work toward a brighter future. This role requires compassion, dedication, and a commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment.
Whilst this role does not require previous experience as training and development is given, however it is desired that the candidate would have:
Qualification and Experience
:
Level 2 and/or 3 diploma in health and social care or the desire and commitment to work towards.
High school diploma or equivalent; a relevant degree or certification in social work, psychology, or a related field is a plus.
Previous experience in a similar support role.
Empathy, patience, and the ability to build rapport with service users.
Crisis intervention skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Knowledge of local resources and services for service users.
Ability to follow policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Cultural sensitivity and a non-judgmental approach.
