Job Description

The post holder will be expected to provide clerical, administrative and information technology support to nursing and other staff in relation to the needs of patients being cared for within the Unit. The post holder will work under the direction of the Ward Manager in supporting the smooth running of the service.



Answering telephones, ensuring bed boards are up to date, to provide weekly and monthly ward activity figures, to provide a confidential and high standard general administrative support to the ward/unit, to ensure that all patient admissions, discharges and attendances are recorded accurately on the relevant electronic system in real time, liaise with trust teams to escalate issues, take minutes of meetings and distribute or act as necessary and any other ward clerking responsibilities.

Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.

The role requires good communication skills and cooperation with the nursing team vital to the role. The post demands having the ability to communicate at all levels with patients, families / carer's, medical and nursing colleagues to maintain a high standard of customer service to meet the needs of the patient and their families. To help facilitate the organisation of any meetings requested by nursing staff , staff debriefs and the weekly multidisciplinary team meeting and to take minutes, To ensure all relevant legal paperwork pertaining to a patient's admission is signed off by the Nurse in Charge before sending through to the Mental Health Act office and uploaded onto the patient's electronic records. To exchange confidential and / or sensitive information with staff, patients, and families / carer's in person or on the telephone. The patient's presentation means that persuasive, reassuring, empathic, skills are required at all times. To ensure that all paperwork pertaining to patient care including observations are accurately uploaded to the electronic patient record in a timely manner.
