Job Description

We have a rare opportunity which has arisen within our regional medium secure Hospital for an experienced nurse to join our multi-disciplinary team.



We are looking for a B7 ward manager to lead our busy Assessment ward and ICU which are at the front end of our service, supporting our most vulnerable patients. The role is varied, challenging and fast paced. The successful candidate will have extensive experience working in mental health, they will be resilient, reliable and they will be a compassionate leader.



Interviews for this vacancy will be held on the 28th November 2025.



Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is 26.40 (standard) or 54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.



You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of 16 per year applies.

As a Ward Manager, you will:



Have 24-hour managerial responsibility for the ward (24 hour responsibility for the Hospital when on-call) Provide a visible and accessible leadership presence in ward settings to patients, carers and staff Provide effective direct management to the direct care staff on the ward Ensure that excellent standards of care are maintained on the ward at all times

You will be required to complete mandatory training to assist your professional development.

Manage the budget for the ward and extended team on a day to day basis



Ensure that all members of staff receive appropriate supervision and performance review



Ensure that excellent clinical standards are maintained at all times



Provide strong clinical leadership both at a ward and hospital level



To monitor standards of clinical care, the physical ward environment and standards of hotel services delivered to patients



To act as investigating officer with regard to any complaints/incidents as required



Where instances of service deficit are identified to evaluate service, make recommendations and initiate change processes to ensure service improvement



To improve on the quality of patient care experience by using Releasing Time To Care initiatives



To oversee audits within the hospital as appropriate



Ensure correct implementation of the Mental Health Act within the ward



Develop and sustain effective relationships with outside agencies and stakeholders



To represent the hospital at directorate and Trust wide forums as required



To ensure maximum efficiency in the use of the ward and extended role resources
